Julie, Its difficult to live with yeast for even a few days, and you have had them for 5 months. I really wish you good health back. You need to stop your current medications and review if something in your lifestyle is causing this continued yeast infection.

I have been having yeast infections and bv for over 5 months. Nothing preprepared or packaged or prescriptions have worked. I went to my local health food store and found out my body has not been breaking down yeast. I have been taking vinegar orally and vaginally. After treating the vagninal area yeast was coming out of my butt! Thanks to Betty H, I know what to do next. A bit of advice to everyone thought don't eat yeast. It blocks vitamin absorption and can lead to hypothyroidism and a number of other problems. I suffered from hypo, fatigue, and was having anxiety problems. Since I have been treating myself for yeast I have more energy and I have lost 21 pounds. Now if I can just get rid of the rest of the yeast I will be good to go. Thanks Betty H and this website.

yestrol is good option for treatment of rectal yeast infection; we have heard positive reviews from people who used it, but like with any medication, some people will not benefit but its still one of the best yeast treatment medications and its homepathic, so minimal side effects on your body.

searching for info on a chronic rectal irritation,
redness, soreness, pressure inside and around the anal area, gassiness at times, accompanying this. All tests have been negative, but symptoms persist.
Seen a number of docs: gynecologists, colo-rectal
specialists..none seem to get it right. Doesn't seem to be symptoms of anything I've read about, most recently, as suggested by my gyn: yeast. Any helpful insights or info would be
most appreciated.

Not only is this not easy to cure, but in my experience doctors don't even believe it exists. I had what started as a creepy-crawly feeling and escalated to pain so severe I was lying on the bathroom floor crying after going. It all started after a nine-day course of IV antibiotics for a cat bite that got infected. *I* was the one who finally figured out what it was, after being misdiagnosed with, among other things, "atypical Crone's disease." After I figured it out (I had been having vaginal yeast infections constantly too), my gyn sent me to a "yeast specialist" who told me I had vulvadynia, which didn't even fit my symptoms. Before figuring it out, I had to show my asshole to about five doctors, which was really fun, and they all said they didn't see anything wrong. (None of them were smart enough to look for something they *couldn't* see.) A nurse told me there was no such thing and that she wouldn't know how to culture for it anyway.

Turned out the reason it persisted for so long is I had thyroid and adrenal problems; I had a lot of other symptoms as well, because the hormone imbalance was screwing up my whole metabolism. So check for that if you have persistent issues. (My two other most major symptoms were severe fatigue -- which I initially chalked up to the yeast -- and uncharacteristic, uncontrollable rage popping up over the smallest things. Once I got on an adrenal medication, my normally sunny personality returned.)

Anyway, my point: I finally did find a "cure." One big thing, of course, is to watch sugar, alcohol, and caffeine intake (all things that can also screw up your adrenal glands, especially if they're already stressed). Another is the suppository-style miconazole you can get at the drug store. But the biggest thing for me was, I bought a Fleet enema and first used it to clear out any stuff up there that might be harboring yeast. Then I used the container to make my own version: Mix a little salt and the powder from one capsule of Vitamin Shoppe's Ultimate 10 probiotic in it with water. (Put the powders in first, then add a little water and shake it up, then add the rest of the water; otherwise the powders don't dissolve.) I do this before bed on nights when I can feel it thinking about coming back (for example in the days before my period, or if I end up having too much sugar for a few days in a row), and by morning there's no problem. The probiotics really seem the best way to fight the stuff, and this costs almost nothing. (The Ultimate 10 is like $44 for 300, I think, but you can take them orally, which will also help, and they last a long time.)

Good luck; it's a horrible problem!

This is a very informative page on rectal yeast infection, which can be caused by birth control pills, antibiotics, sensitivity to soaps or douches, STD, pregnancy and diabetes. And its not easy to discuss this with friends or do to a doctor without being sure. This article was useful. Wish more such pages came in the top 10 search results.

@Captured: Rectal Yeast Infection is as easy or difficult to cure as other yeast infections. If you have a discharge for 3 months, you must talk with a doctor because there could be other factors behind the discharge.
