Because they can become quickly weakened and/or disoriented due to lack of oxygen, it is up to you as caretaker to initiate an immediate asthma attack treatment.

A severe asthma attack gives the sensation and panic of drowning, even though they are not under any water.

Asthma Attack Treatment Must Be Immediate. Don’t delay treatment, call for help.

Asthma First Aid

Make sure the patient is sitting up.

Smile. Appear calm and cool. Don’t shout, unless absolutely necessary.

Get the inhaler and a spacer, if possible. Shake the inhaler. Most asthma patients carry their inhalers with them on their person all of the time. Have them take a puff, count to four, and then take another puff up to four puffs.

Wait four minutes.

If no improvement, try the puffing again.

If still no improvement, call an ambulance. They need hospitalization.

But, What If This Is A First Attack?

The asthma attack treatment is a little different when it’s the patient’s first asthma attack ever. Since they didn’t know the attack was coming, they will not have any kind of inhalers on them. The NAC of Australia recommends this first asthma attack treatment first aid:

Don’t delay. Call an ambulance immediately.

Ask if anyone around has an inhaler. Use anyone’s inhaler. This is not the time to show brand loyalty.

Shake the offered inhaler.

Have the patient puff, then fire the inhaler while patient does best at a deep inhale.

Have patient hold breath for 4 seconds.

Have patient try to take four normal breaths.

Repeat until ambulance arrives.

Other Advice for Asthma Attack Treatment:

There are many things the asthma patient and his or her relative/significant other/roommate/whatever can ease the danger of a sudden attack, even if the other person is not around.

One option is to get a bracelet or necklace saying that you have asthma.

Another is to take your medication and follow your doctor’s orders.

And, if you smoke, then you really need to cut back or stop. You really don’t have an option. Not only are you clogging up your lungs, but the smokes will most likely interfere with all of your asthma and/or bronchitis medications.

Of course things like common cold etc keep happening, but its the bigger things you have to guard against.

Is it true that pregnancy tend to contract bronchitis?

Yes, it is likely for pregnant women to get bronchitis, because during pregnancy, the uterus expands to provide more room for the growing baby. However, this causes other organs, such as the lungs, to be compressed/pressured. This often leads to more sinus infections in pregnant women—and sinus infections can lead to bronchitis.

The simultaneous occurrence of bronchitis and pregnancy often inhibits the woman’s ability to breathe, which is dangerous for the baby’s health and development.

Usually antibiotics or drugs would be the quick fix for this situation. However, pregnant women must be careful about which drugs they take, because these too can damage the baby’s health.

Anytime a pregnant woman is considering taking medicine of any kind, she needs to work very closely with her doctor to determine what is best for her health.

How To Avoid Bronchitis During Pregnancy?

Here are some steps to take. First of all, women who are pregnant should avoid being around people with colds or bronchitis. This means think twice before getting into crowded metros. Additionally, if a woman is pregnant during the flu season (December through March), then she should get the flu vaccine to protect herself from serious cases of pneumonia or influenza.

Bronchitis and pneumonia has some of the same symptoms so therefore, many people believe that treating bronchitis and pneumonia will also share some of the same remedies. This theory is true up to a point, but you have to understand first the type of bronchitis and pneumonia that you might have. Those illnesses caused by a virus will be treated differently than those that are caused by bacteria.

The basic difference between bronchitis and pneumonia is that bronchitis is primarily an inflammation of the air passageways called bronchi that lead from the trachea to the lungs.
In treating bronchitis and pneumonia, it is also important to know whether they were caused by a virus or bacteria.

Almost everyone gets a cold in their lifetime, and many people will get cold at least one every year.

And there are times when a cold may become something worse, so the question of the day is how do you know you have bronchitis instead of a lingering cold.

Question: How Do You Know You Have Bronchitis? What are the Key Symptoms?

Often, a cold is the first step in developing bronchitis so some cold symptoms will also be present in bronchitis. Identifying the current cough as something more than just a part of a cold — is the complex part of detecting if you have bronchitis.

With colds, your cough may be rather dry with no expulsion of phlegm or mucus. However, with bronchitis, the coughs are moist, producing yellow or green sputum.

Another symptom for bronchitis is wheezing and chest pain — ie behind the sternum (breast bone). When your bronchial tubes are inflamed, they are producing mucus which creates a rattling, wheezing noise when you breathe. Of course, the pain in the chest occurs from repeated coughing as well as from the bronchial tube inflammation.

Fatigue and fever are two additional signs that can show how you know you do have bronchitis. Chronic coughing can take a toll on your body causing tiredness while fever is common when you body is fighting an infection. Of course, these two symptoms are also prevalent in pneumonia as well.

Question: How do you know you if you have bronchitis instead of pneumonia?

For that you can get chest x-ray or “Bronchoscopy” at the hospital or doctor’s office. The x-rays will reveal clear lungs with bronchitis, but infection is will be visible in the lungs of a pneumonia patient.

Question: What are the Treatment Options?

Once you know that you do have bronchitis, specific treatment can be started.

If the cause is a bacteria, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics. A blood test and sample of the phlegm/sputum can show how you know you do have bronchitis caused by bacteria.

If the cause is a virus (and this seems to be more common) you can’t solve it with antibiotics (as you may know already), and you just have to wait and let the illness run its course. However, you could still ease your symptoms like the inhalation of steam, consuming plenty of fluids and taking a pain reliever for those body aches.

Question: How can I prevent it from coming in future?

That’s very difficult give that we live in a society and we have to constantly interact with people. Even if your body is able to Once you have become better, think about future. The best defense is preventative maintenance like hand washing and avoiding disease prone areas. Regular exercise can keep your respiratory system in good shape for

Asthma could be a life threatening disease for the millions of children affected by this chronic condition. The asthmatic person feels as if they cannot breathe. And it is frightening to the children, the parents, their teachers and other caregivers.

Fortunately, there have been significant developments in the treatment of asthma in children.

Asthma in children affects children the same way this condition affects adults. The airways in the human body are constricted when an asthma attack occurs.

It often results in wheezing and a whistling sound when breathing. Asthma can also make the child feel as if their chest is very tight, and they often have a coughing spell. It creates fear in children because they think they might die.

Asthma in children is the result of the same conditions as asthma in adults. Excessively hot, cold or moist air is often the trigger that causes an asthma attack. Smoke in the atmosphere can trigger an asthma attack in children and adults. Strenuous work or play can bring on an asthma attack.

Asthma In Children Can Be Controlled

There have been some significant developments that provide freedom for children affected by asthma. There are some great inhalers that children can use on their own if they have an asthma attack. These inhalers can be put in their pocket or backpack to be pulled out to relieve the symptoms of an attack. These inhalers provide security to children who might be worried that they could have an attack at any time.

There are also medications for asthma in children. These medications have been developed through expert medical research, and the treatments continue to improve. These treatments make the use of the inhalers less frequent.

Stress is often a cause of asthma, and the worry of having an attack can add stress to the lives of young children.

The medications and inhalers reduce the worry that young children might feel because of previous asthma attacks. Most young children today can live a fully independent life without worrying that they will have trouble breathing because of asthma.

It has been found that asthmatics are prone to developing asthmatic bronchitis in the event that their prior asthma condition turns persistent as well as severe which leads to non-temporary obstruction of the respiratory tract.

And someone with chronic bronchitis and even those with asthma can get asthmatic bronchitis.

It is also usual for asthmatic bronchitis patients to show signs and symptoms of chronic bronchitis and whatever prior treatments may have been taken to treat asthma will turn out ineffective and airways will continue to stay clogged and mucus will still gather in them.

Diagnosis

Even physical examinations undertaken in a clinic can fail to establish the proper diagnosis based solely on the symptoms of asthmatic bronchitis, because there are common symptoms for a number of conditions including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and also asthmatic bronchitis that can lead to confusion when diagnosing.

Therefore, the best means of diagnosing the problem would be through testing in the laboratory and also by carefully making physical examinations.

Asthmatic bronchitis is also likely to occur amongst patients of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.

In addition, the disease is also caused due to being exposed to irritants that are outside of the body rather than because of internal viruses and also bacteria.

Sometimes, extreme cases of respiratory problems that occur during childhood coupled with a poor immune system and also hyperactivity affecting the respiratory tract is other factors that cause an onset of asthmatic bronchitis.

And smokers that have a chronic bronchial condition can be at risk of developing this disease and the usual symptoms of such a condition include coughing, breathlessness, wheezing and also feeling discomfort in the chest when trying to breathe.

Since this disease does cause respiratory tract obstructions, it follows that any treatment given to the patient should be effective in freeing the airways from the blockage within, and to also combat internally the bacteria that may have caused the problem in the first place.

The treatment recommended most often is known as bronchodilators which are effective in making clogged airways become decongested and gets rid of the mucus.

Asthmatic bronchitis can also lead to grave complications that are known as pulmonary bacterial infections which will require a prolonged and on going treatment regime, and if you suffer from such a malady, you should make it a point to keep away from irritants such as smoke from cigarettes, chemical, pollutants, dust and also alcohol vapors.

Has your life been affected by difficulty in breathing since childhood that it hinders you to not enjoy so many activities like normal kids would? Or have you ever felt like you are in a situation that is very much stressful that it not only triggers your anxiety but also gives you asthma attacks?

Well, if you are one of those people whose lives have been greatly affected by asthma, you should know that having the best treatment and asthma medicine is the key to managing it. But on the other hand, there also are the side effects that asthma medicine could give to the patients so be careful of what you take and discuss it with your doctor if you are experiencing such.

Probably, the best asthma medicine that an asthma patient could have is the combination medication which contains a reliever and a controller in just one inhaler. This type of asthma medicine opens up the airways while preventing the feeling of chest tightening and the worsening of the attack. At the same time, it also acts up and greatly reduces the underlying inflammation that triggers asthma.

As a result, using combination inhalers is the best asthma solution that you could have because it initially lessens the medicine or inhalers that you take to control or manage your disease. Not only has that, combination medications also reduce the time that you have to take different kinds of medicine to help you cope. And just recently, there have been a breakthrough when it comes to combination medications because now, you could safely adjust the dosage that you would take to have the right level of medication that you need which only means that you reduce your intake of medication overall.

Potential Side Effects
Though these asthma medicines could greatly relieve us of all the signs and symptoms and help us cope with the disease through management and control, there are side effects that we could have when we take them. At worse, these side effects could also hinder us to enjoy the usual activities that we participate in because as much as they are strong in bettering our condition, they could trigger the feeling of drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, stomach ache, stuffiness, nausea, weakness, urinary problems, among the side effects. If you have experienced all these after taking your asthma medicine, pleased immediately inform your doctor and discuss it.

Before you can really understand about chronic bronchitis, you need to be aware of the actual bronchitis condition itself and how it works.

Bronchitis occurs when there is an infection of the bronchial tree, which is made up of the different tubes that work by carrying air to your lungs.

This is why people who suffer from bronchitis find it difficult to breathe and often have serious wheezing and congestion problems. Many different factors are considered as potential causes of bronchitis, but it is usually always caused by viruses that attack the lining of the bronchial tree and then which end up causing infection.

Chronic Bronchitis Information

It comes an excessive amount of bronchial mucus, a symptom that is not present with acute bronchitis. In the earlier stages of chronic bronchitis, the sufferer will usually begin experiencing a dry cough, one that usually occurs most in the morning time.

As well during the earlier stages of chronic bronchitis, it is usually only the larger airways that are affected, however as the disease progresses and becomes worse, all airways eventually wind up becoming involved, and over time, the patient will experience abnormal ventilation-perfusion.

When compared, this form of bronchitis is much worse than the other form of it – known as acute bronchitis, and this is largely because chronic bronchitis usually lasts more a much longer period of time, usually weeks or months, even years.

Chronic Bronchitis Treatment and Prevention

There are no surefire methods of preventing yourself from ever getting bronchitis, but there are certainly preventive measures that you can take in order to guard yourself against the disease as much as possible. Namely you need to quit smoking if you were a smoker to begin with, as this is by far one of the leading causes of the condition.

You also need to live an otherwise healthy life, and this means eating a healthy and nutritious diet, and getting plenty of regular exercise. By doing this, not only will you be safeguarding yourself against bronchitis and other respiratory diseases, but you will be becoming healthier overall.

Chronic bronchitis is one of the most commonly occurring upper respiratory conditions in the world, and one of the most potentially dangerous as well, and so it is really important that you take the situation seriously and take every step possible towards protecting yourself and preventing your body from developing the disease.
